In the early chapters of Heath & Street, I began to feel the fog shrouding my research topic lift a little.
On page 7: "documenting how organizational and institutional forces select and shape their preferred cultural patterns and imbue them with particluar values" is something worth looking into. That sentence references Leung, 2005. The principles that follow on page 8 is a list that is also starred and underlined. I have to remember to re-read it before I construct my proposal. I bet some of you starred taht one, too.
There is also a large section in "groups and Identity-making" as well as the "constant comparative" that seem to overlap. It's good to identify what has changed at the site, and what may be unnoticed changes. My dilemma is that I don;t think anyone has done anything similar in that community in the past. Past research has sought to describe and document the langauge, but not look at the social construction of language in terms of maintaining it. I think what I have to do is find some other thing to compare it to .... but what???
So what I am doing to resolve that now, as a start, is to list all theories and theorists that may be able to apply here, even if in a very general way now. Concept mapping time again!
